Demolition of Wheeler School

Another old school has come under the wrecker's ball--this time Wheeler School at 310 Mulberry St. The school was built in 1855, was closed in June 1972, and bought at an auction later that year by Baptist Hospital. Although it had undergone considerable renovation, the school was the first public-supported school building to be constructed in the city.
